Charter Fishing Boat 'Australian Maid'

CFB Australian Maid is a 10 metre hardwood 10.5 ton heavy displacement charter vessel built along the lines of a traditional east coast trawler.

Working out of Nelson Bay, Port Stephens she has been extensively upgraded and customised to provide the perfect combination of safety and comfort with the most versatile and user friendly deck layout available. This vessel is a one of handmade craft with a ride quality unmatched by today’s mass produced boats.

She was built by David Linton on the NSW north coast at Crowdy Head and launched in 1983. This renowned shipwright spent his lifetime perfecting the art of hand crafting hardwood vessels and at 50 years of age, CFB Australian Maid was one of his last works. This period marked the beginning of the end of the era of these unique craftsmen and their extremely reliable, sea kindly vessels.

Being built to work she is powered by a 10.5 litre V8 Caterpillar 3208 marine diesel of 210 hp. Coupled to a Twin Disc 2.5:1 reduction gearbox she swings a 30 inch diameter x 22 inch pitch four blade propeller.

She was purchased by Australian Made Charters in Sydney in 1994. After undergoing extensive upgrading and stability testing by the Sydney based naval architect Yaan Faustman, she was approved by NSW Maritime and her survey upgraded to 2C for 12 passengers + 2 crew offshore to 30 nautical mile and 1E for 20 passengers + 2 crew inshore.

Since then she has worked continuously in the recreational charter industry firstly from Port Jackson, Sydney then from our current location in Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay, Port Stephens.

We are unashamedly proud and pleased to say that after having travelled in excess of 50,000 nautical miles in charter operations we have a perfect safety record and the reliability of our vessel is well proven having never required assistance at sea or been towed over the past sixteen years of operation. Our maintenance program and upgrading is thorough and continuous ensuring our clients of a safe and enjoyable charter experience second to none.
